The Growth of Online Education [Infographic]

Pearson Learning Solutions recently published an infographic about online learning. They took data from a 2011 study issued by Babson Survey Research Group–Going the Distance: Online Education in the United States, 2011.

The study has several interesting conclusions about online learning:

  • Significant Growth:  The number of students enrolled in at least one online course has grown from 1.6 million in 2002 to 6.1 million in 2011.
  • Online Enrollment Growth:  In 2010, online enrollment as a percentage of total enrollment exceeded 31% up from less than 10% in 2002.
  • Importance of Online Education:  More than 65% of schools in 2011 believe that online education is critical to its future.
