Learning a second language for free

Postby Ivory » Wed Jan 24, 2007 10:47 am

Hi everyone!

My friend told me about this program at WSU.
Last semester, she signed up for a conversation partner program at wsu( English Language ). she needed some help to pass her Arabic class but her tutor wasn't helping at all. she tried her luck and signed up for the program. she said she got a nice arabic lady who help her learn what she needed to pass the class in 3 weeks. She wished she had signed up earlier.
I've checked the program and it's true. It's free and they meet when where they want. they have long list of different languages you can sign up for. Pretty cool!!

Where can you find the list of available languages - is it on the WSU website anywhere? Also, what is it - like one on one tutoring? Just curious because for a free program that sounds too good to be true.

it's really free !! you can see in the main wayne state website( in the advertisement column). it is pretty much a language exchange program; a english speaker will help a non-english speaker with his/her english difficulties and the non-english speaker (arabic, hebrew, italian, french ....) will help the english speaker in a foreign language. The non-english speaker is a student studying english as his/her second language.

I wish they offered something like that at OCC, that sounds like a good program.

That is great information to have. That program will be very useful to many people. Ivory, if you could post the information in the General Discussion forum so more people could see, that would be great! Thanks!

I need to learn Spanish quick. There is a very beautiful illegal immigrant moving into my apartment complex, I think I'm in love.
